SRG develops fully immersive virtual reality simulations for the US Navy through the Live Fire Testing and Training Program. The Virtual Environment Simulation for Shipboard Incident Management (VESSIM) is a first person perspective simulation for training first responders in first aid and damage control procedures in a shipboard environment. For VESSIM, ship design drawings for the LPD-17 amphibious troop carrier were used to recreate specific spaces onboard the ship. Portions of a vulnerability scenario obtained from the LPD-17 Program Office were used to realistically damage the ship spaces.

The initial VESSIM proof of concept was created using the PC game engine Quake III. This concept depicted the well deck and vehicle storage areas of the LPD-17 to test large area performance as well as an unofficial interior space with small spaces and passageways containing bunks, computers, and other equipment to test confined area performance. The production version of VESSIM was created using Multigen-Paradigm Vega and requires a HMD, motion tracker, and a 3 degree-of-freedom joystick. It includes a scripting engine for creating training scenarios, interaction with objects in the scene, a virtual medical "gunbag", and the capability to network multiple trainees to allow for teamwork and leadership training.

SRG provides engineering support for the Virtual Target Gunnery System project (VTAGS). VTAGS is an augmented reality appended training system for the MK-38 machine gun. By injecting virtual targets into the live scene, both live-fire as well as dry-fire exercises can be conducted at sea or in port. Also, since the targets are virtual, training can be accomplished for a fraction of the cost of using disposable targets.
